It’s not clear why RC moved to Napa, but he bought a lot of land (see flyer photos below) and declared his occupation as ‘vintner’ for the federal census. Frederick Witzel (Emma’s son) and his cousin Frank McQuiston (Fanny’s son) asked the American Title Co. in 1983 to help find the location of the property. (See Napa_Title_Co_1983 letter.)

In 2012, one of Emma’s grandnephews noticed a reference on the website of the Jocelyn Lonen Winery to being on the location of the “first Napa vineyard…which was planted by RC DeBoom.” By 2013 the website omitted this detail, which suggests some hands-on investigation (involving wine-tasting) may be required of RC’s decendents at some future time.
